On September 12 we will host our third Film Stories at film theatre De Uitkijk in Amsterdam 🤍 We’ve invited scriptwriter and filmmaker Ashgan El-Hamus to be our guest. We are very excited for this evening, to say the least. Join us for an evening filled with Ashgan her films and a long conversation on filmmaking. And yes, of course the t-shirts will be for sale again.

Film Stories, curated by Rotterdam-based film production company mint2, is a series of film events centered around a single director and their work. Film Stories presents the full picture of filmmaking, with all the compromises, decisions, and dilemmas that come with it. Setbacks and how to overcome them are central to the conversation between the filmmaker, moderator, and audience.

Ashgan studied screenwriting at the Film Academy, and after graduating she started focusing on directing films in addition to screenwriting. With her films Ashgan aims to tell small, often overlooked stories. Her directorial debut Birdland (2020) was screened at several festivals throughout Europe. Her most recent film Lois Lane (2021), part of the talent development program ‘Onze straat’, tells the story of a mother who reunites with her son after he has been evicted from the house by youth service. Ashgan is currently working on her debut film Baraniya, where she is both writing and directing the script. The film is based on the history of the Egyptian side of her family.
